Oscar winning actress Dame Judi Dench has spent her life living beside one of the oldest forests in the UK, and in this one hour special she will embark on a remarkable journey with experts and historians to discover how deeply embedded trees are in our history, and how important they are to our future.

Filmed across an entire year, she witnesses and experiences their extraordinary behaviours – she hears her trees drink, discovers how they feel and learn how they communicate and protect one another. This enchanting programme uses the latest botanical research and innovations in technology to bring to life this hidden, unseen world. Told through the narrative of the changing seasons, Judi Dench: My Passion for Trees uses innovative filming techniques and the latest cutting edge scientific technology to unlock the remarkable secret lives of trees.

The programme will be repeated on Boxing Day at 12.45pm on BBC 1 and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
