The Coronation – In The Press
February 10, 2018
Early this year our latest documentary, The Coronation, aired on BBC 1. The film marked the first time that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has spoken publicly about her coronation on camera. During the film she watched back official and personal film footage and recalled her own personal memories of that day. The Queen was also reunited with the St Edward’s Crown, which she has only worn once at the moment of her coronation 65 years ago.
The film was part of the Royal Collection Season, a major partnership between the Royal Collection Trust and the BBC, which included programming across BBC 1, 2 and 4, and Local Radio throughout January and February 2018. As part of this The Coronation aired on BBC 1 on Sunday 14th January at 8pm. The film was also broadcast in the US, on Smithsonian Channel, on the same day 8pm local time, and on ABC Australia on 4th February.
From when it was announced on 3rd January up until it was broadcast, The Coronation was featured heavily in both national and international press with front page features on the Telegraph, Daily Mail and The Times. It also had full page features in the Radio Times, The Times and the New York Times in the US.
The film was featured as a top pick/critics choice across the broadsheets and red tops and received many positive reviews the following day including receiving 4 stars in the The Times, The Guardian and 5 stars in The Telegraph.
A huge achievement! Well done to everyone who worked on this incredible production, and a big thank you to our partners BBC, Smithsonian Channel, ABC Australia and FremantleMedia.
